Once upon a time, the only tools available to the common DJ were a couple of turntables, a mixer and a shed load of vinyl. Those days seem so long ago now but boy don’t we miss them. The crisp sound of brand new vinyl spinning or even the skipping of a tune thats so popular all the grooves are barely in existance any longer. Of course this was before a generation of Mp3 players, DRM (Digital Rights Management), P2P (Peer to Peer) networks and CD Decks*. Well fortunately a few people havent forgotten the skill, romance and essence of performing in this manner and for us this week our man CHARLIE GLITCH has prepared a special mixtape of nostalgic Old Skool taste, spinning the freshest BMore beats, wonky basslines, funky samples ands glitchy vocals using only these tools.

Born and raised in Chicago’s Southside, CHARLIE GLITCH is the creator and mastermind behind the GHETTODIVISION DJ & Production crew. The crew are also part of the brilliant BRICKBANDITS family which contains the likes of the magnificent DJ SEGA, ROB THREEZY and of course GLITCH himself. CHARLIE started DJing at age 13 and was heavily influence by genres such as HOUSE, HIP HOP, CLASSICS and JUKE to name a few. GLITCH states that the main reason he is here is:

“to educate the youth to good music”

CHARLIE certainly doesnt disappoint in the slightest, as tight a mix as any we have heard here at Mnuvrs, this is nearly a full hour of flavoursome beats, interspersed with some pure classics such as DJ SEGA’s Be and a CHARLIE GLITCH Remix of Intergalactic as well as a number of fresh tunes previously never heard by the Mnuvrs crew before. If you love your funky samples and choppy vocals then this is the mix for you. (* Ok i know i may have exaggerated quite how long ago it was that DJ’s were spinning vinyl and im fully aware there are thousands of people who still do and thats brilliant. I was simply trying to make a point about this being the first mix, that i am aware of, that was created with only two decks and a mixer. It’s cool that people are still indulging in the format and keeping it alive, in my opinion!!)
